We are recruiting for roles in special schools in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch (currently) to work as part of a multidisciplinary team (SLT, OT, Physio and sometimes Psychologists and Social Workers) supporting students with disabilities, whether intellectual, physical, high health or a combination of all (otherwise known as PMLD).
OTs with experience in special schools are especially desirable.
South African trained OTs have a unit on sensory integration as part of their training, and we’re currently looking for this skill set for one of the schools. We would also look at experienced candidates trained in other culturally similar countries, or with experience in those.
Occupational Therapists in New Zealand special schools are paid according to their qualifications and years of experience, as laid out in the collective agreement, which also outlines conditions. When working in specialist roles within schools, the salary is dictated by the qualifications you hold, and the years of experience you have. You will need to have your qualifications assessed by NZQA to determine your qualification step. The Ministry of Education pays therapists working in schools according the current collective agreement, and the salary is determined by the Ministry’s salary assessment unit.
